How to Start Trading on edgeX (2026): Step by Step
Mechanics verified against official edgeX docs on 2026-09-09.
Perpetual futures are leveraged instruments: your entire margin can be lost quickly, and funding accrues while a position is open. Read the risk disclosure before you fund an account. edgeX's Terms of Use bar residents of the United States and Canada, and the app shows the same restriction; this guide is written for readers outside those jurisdictions and does not cover workarounds. You will need:
- Either an EVM wallet (the docs name MetaMask as an example) or an email address, because edgeX offers an MPC login that creates a wallet address for you. Choosing a wallet is covered by our sister site's wallet rankings.
- USDT — the collateral asset — with at least 10 USDT to deposit, plus ETH for gas if you deposit from a wallet on Ethereum. Email accounts deposit over Arbitrum.
Connect: wallet or email
The docs describe two paths. With a wallet, connect it on the app. With email, "click the 'Connect' button and enter your email address"; a six-digit code arrives, and after you enter it "a new blockchain address is automatically created for your email address". The MPC route is convenient but narrower: per the withdrawals page, MPC accounts can withdraw only via Arbitrum.
Deposit USDT
"USDT: serves as collateral for trading. ETH: used to cover gas fees when depositing USDT." The minimum is 10 USDT, stated as the amount needed "to support the margin for opening a position". edgeX charges no deposit fee; you pay the chain's gas. Timings from the docs: Ethereum deposits need "approximately 15 confirmations (around 5 minutes)", and "for large one-time deposits (over $300K) on non-Ethereum chains, fund rebalancing between L1 and L2 may take up to 2 hours". Email accounts "send USDT over the Arbitrum network" to the address the app generated.
Understand margin before the first order
edgeX runs cross margin by default: collateral is shared across every position in a trading account. If you want isolated exposure, the docs' answer is a separate account — "up to 20 trading accounts with independent margins per single wallet" — and their volume still counts toward one shared fee tier. The fee tier itself is shown inside the app; the docs do not publish the rates (see the fees page).
Place a first order
Three order types are documented: limit, market and conditional. Limit orders carry fill-or-kill, good-till-time (a default maximum of four weeks), immediate-or-cancel, post-only and reduce-only options. Take-profit and stop-loss orders execute as market orders and trigger off the last traded price. Liquidation uses an oracle price from Stork, not the last trade, so watch the oracle mark rather than the tape when sizing. If you trade a stock or forex perp, read the session rules first: while the underlying market is closed, stock perps reject market orders and forex perps drop to reduced liquidity tiers.
Withdraw
Wallet users "can select the chain for withdrawal from Ethereum, BNB Chain, or Arbitrum"; MPC accounts only Arbitrum. Ethereum withdrawals are batched and verified on L1 and "could take up to 14 hours". Fees: gas only on Ethereum; on the other chains "a cross-chain withdrawal fee of 0.1% applies, with a minimum fee of 1 USD". Plan the timing before you need the funds elsewhere.
FAQ
Do I need KYC?
The docs and Terms of Use read on the verification date contain no KYC statement either way; onboarding is described as a wallet connection or an email code. What the terms do state is the jurisdiction bar on the United States and Canada.
Can I deposit USDC?
The documentation names USDT as the collateral asset and describes deposits in USDT. It does not describe USDC deposits, so this site does not claim they work.
Why can email accounts only withdraw via Arbitrum?
The docs state the restriction without a reason. Practically, an MPC account's address is created on Arbitrum at sign-up, and its withdrawal path stays on that chain.
