Paradex Review 2026: Private Perps, Zero Retail Fees
Facts verified against Paradex's official documentation on 2026-09-10. Where the docs are silent — KYC, restricted jurisdictions, a minimum deposit, the DIME supply table — this page says so rather than filling the gap.
Verdict
The most fully documented venue on this site, built around a privacy trade-off. Paradex publishes its retail zero, its Pro tier ladder, its funding caps, its liquidation and socialised-loss rules, its audits and even its trade-bust mechanism. What it asks in return is trust in a three-member council that holds the keys to encrypted state, and acceptance that losses are socialised through a withdrawal charge rather than auto-deleveraged. Retail traders get free perps, options and spot in one USDC account; size traders get a published Pro schedule and a live token that discounts it. Read the risks section before the verdict feels too clean.
What Paradex is
Paradex is "a decentralized exchange (DEX) built as a Starknet appchain": a dedicated chain on the Starknet stack, with StarkWare named as a strategic and technology partner. The model is hybrid — "the matching engine runs in the cloud and the chain independently validates each trade". Encrypted state diffs are posted to Ethereum with a ZK proof, so Ethereum can check that the published diff matches the proven transition without reading it. The docs describe the exchange as non-custodial: "all actions must be authorized via user signatures". Audits listed include Cairo Security Clan on the core Paraclear, vault, factory, registry and oracle contracts (May 2025), Zellic on the L1 bridge (October 2024), and a HackerOne penetration test of the API and web app (March 2025), with a bug bounty on Sherlock. No team roster, backer list or launch date appears in the docs.
Privacy: what is hidden and who can see it
The flagship design choice is that "positions, entries, PnL and liquidation levels are hidden from the public". The docs describe privacy as end to end: on the chain, RPC nodes "mask position and account fields by default, and only return private data to the owner after authenticating the request via a valid signature"; on Ethereum, "the blob data is encrypted before posting". Decryption keys are held by a Privacy Council whose current members are the Paradex Foundation, Paradex and Karnot. State is still posted to Ethereum "to preserve the possibility of an escape hatch in the event Paradex becomes inoperable". The honest reading: no other trader can watch your liquidation level approach, and the council can.
Fees at a glance
Two classes of order. Retail — from the web app or the API with an interactive token — pays 0% maker and taker on perps, spot and options, in exchange for a 300ms speed bump and lower rate limits; an account that exceeds those limits "automatically switches to Pro Order behavior". Pro orders pay a flat 0.003% maker fee on perps and spot and a taker fee that starts at 0.045% and falls by 14-day volume to 0.035% at the top tier, with a floor of 0.0175% after discounts. Paying fees in DIME takes a flat 40% off Pro taker fees, and staking DIME adds a tiered discount of up to 30%. Options are 0% for retail and capped at 12.5% of the premium for Pro. The fees page has the tables; the fee comparison places Paradex beside eleven venues.
Trading: margin, orders, markets
USDC is the only eligible collateral (non-USDC balances count toward account value, not free collateral), with multi-collateral stated as a future update. Leverage runs "up to 50x" on perps, set per market and adjustable downward by the user. Three margin modes are documented — cross, isolated, and a portfolio mode marked as beta. Order types are "Limit, Market, Stop, Scaled, TWAP, and TP/SL" with post-only and immediate-or-cancel instructions. The product surface is perpetuals, dated options that cash-settle in USDC at 08:00 UTC on a 30-minute TWAP, and spot, in one unified account the docs describe as "90+ markets"; equities and commodities perps are live under their own oracle rules. Pre-market and equity-perp expansions sit on the roadmap. Funding is "recomputed every 1 second" and capped per eight-hour period at 2% for BTC, ETH and SOL, 0.5% for TradFi markets and 5% for the rest.
DIME and XP
DIME utility launched in April 2026 per the roadmap and is live: fees payable in DIME at a flat 40% discount, staking for tiered Pro taker discounts, buybacks and/or ecosystem-growth funding from net revenue, and an intended role as gas token for a future Paradex Chain. No supply or allocation table is published. XP Season 3 runs from 1 February 2026 with 4,000,000 XP distributed weekly every Wednesday; what XP converts to is not stated. A standard referral programme pays referrers 10% of their referees' XP and referees a 5% XP bonus, with a $10k referred-volume minimum; a separate affiliate programme allocated 1.0% of the DIME supply over a schedule that ended in July 2026, with no page stating its current status.
Risks
- Socialised losses instead of ADL. If the insurance fund is depleted, "Paradex applies Socialized Loss charge to all withdrawals" until it is recapitalised, and a separate time-based Last-Resort mechanism can force-settle positions in extreme illiquidity. Profitable accounts can pay for an event they were not party to.
- Trade busts. Because matching is off-chain, "a trade bust occurs when the chain rejects a trade that was already matched off-chain" and the account is reverted. The docs disclose this as a designed outcome.
- Privacy is a trust arrangement. A three-member council holds the decryption keys; the escape hatch depends on the encrypted state being readable.
- Past incident. The January 2026 funding-index outage and chain rollback, recorded in the status notice above from Paradex's own post-mortem; the docs do not mention it.
- Funding pauses. Funding stops "when the oracle is in maintenance, the USDC price is invalid, or the market is halted".
- Withdrawal latency. Ethereum withdrawals show a pending status that "can take up to 8 hours to update"; the native bridge "requires 4-6 hours".
- Access and KYC. Neither a KYC statement nor a restricted-jurisdiction list was found in the docs. Confirm eligibility with the venue's terms before depositing; this site does not cover access workarounds.
Who Paradex suits — and who it doesn't
It suits a trader who values not being watched, who trades retail size and wants perps, options and spot in one USDC account for nothing, or who trades size and wants a published Pro ladder that DIME can discount. It does not suit anyone who wants to verify the exchange's state from the outside, or who is uncomfortable with a withdrawal-charge model for extreme events.
