Custody risk: contracts upgradeable by a single key — 2026-07-20. Per L2BEAT, edgeX runs as a StarkEx Validium (sharing a proof program with ApeX), and its central contracts can be upgraded by an externally-owned account — a single key — with no exit window; L2BEAT's own risk summary warns this “could result in the loss of all funds,” and notes the central contract is unverified on Etherscan. Separately, the EDGE token fell ~70–77% over 2026-06-01/02 in an episode edgeX attributed to concentrated selling into a thin liquidity pool rather than a protocol hack. edgeX is operating; this is a standing risk to weigh, not an outage. edgeX Review 2026: Order-Book Perp DEX, App-Only Fees

Facts verified against edgeX's official documentation and app pages on 2026-09-09. Where the docs are silent — the fee rates themselves, leverage caps, a market count, KYC — this page says so rather than filling the gap from a third-party tracker or the app's rendered numbers.

Verdict

A capable order book that asks you to sign in before it tells you the price. edgeX documents most of what a trader needs — self-custody with operator-independent withdrawals, USDT collateral, cross margin with up to twenty sub-accounts sharing one fee tier, stock and forex perps with session rules, three audits, and a live EDGE token with a buyback-burn. What it does not publish is the fee schedule: the docs describe a volume-tier system and point to a VIP page inside the app. If you can accept pricing a venue after funding an account, the product is well described; if you cannot, the venues with public schedules are the fairer comparison.

What edgeX is

edgeX is a central limit order book for perpetual futures. Its V1 runs on StarkEx, StarkWare's zero-knowledge rollup, with every trade settled on Ethereum; its V2, per the architecture page, has "temporarily adopted the Arbitrum technology stack as a transitional framework" for a modular rollup, with a Go-based matching engine that runs off-chain and anchors state roots to Ethereum. The docs frame both generations as self-custodial: assets sit in smart contracts, every movement needs the user's own signature, and withdrawals are designed to work "even in extreme black swan scenarios where the edgeX frontend or operator might experience downtime". Audits listed are Rigsec and SlowMist for the platform and PeckShield for the StarkEx contracts. No founding date, team or backers are named anywhere in the documentation, and no security incident is disclosed.

Fees at a glance

The docs state the shape and not the numbers. Fees are "determined by the rolling traded volume over the past 30 days, with updates occurring daily at 00:00 (UTC)"; sub-account volume "is aggregated with the main account, ensuring that all sub-accounts benefit from the same fee tier"; and "edgeX V1 will cover the gas costs on behalf of users" for settlement. For the rates themselves the page says to "visit the VIP page on our website", which is an in-app view. Funding "fees are exchanged every hour between holders of long and short positions" per the mechanism page, with a ±0.05% dampener in the formula; the app shows each market's own interval on its order panel. The fees page sets this out in full, and the fee comparison shows edgeX beside the eleven venues that do publish rates.

Trading: margin, orders, stock and forex perps

USDT is the collateral. Cross margin is the default, and isolated exposure is achieved by opening separate trading accounts — "up to 20 trading accounts with independent margins per single wallet". Three order types are documented: limit (with fill-or-kill, good-till-time up to a default four weeks, immediate-or-cancel, post-only and reduce-only options), market, and conditional; take-profit and stop-loss orders execute as market orders. Liquidation uses an oracle price from the provider Stork rather than the last trade, and the index price is a weighted average from Binance, OKX, Bybit and Coinbase. Stock and forex perpetuals trade around the clock with session rules: during the underlying market's closure, stock perps reject market orders and apply a price band, and forex perps drop to lower liquidity tiers. Maximum leverage is a per-market setting the docs reference by formula only; the market index shows the tier-one cap edgeX publishes through its API for each market it lists.

The EDGE token

EDGE has launched. The app's tokenomics page records that "EDGE tokens were airdropped to eligible edgeX users" and, on the verification date, showed 4.81% of the one-billion supply bought back and burned from revenue with 30.19% net circulating. The docs give the allocation — 30% to early users, split between a genesis distribution and a "Pre TGE Season" — and describe two utilities: voting on edgeX Improvement Proposals, and staking by delegating to validators. A separate community token, MARU, is also documented. Nothing in the docs describes a points programme; the app advertised a "TradFi Trading Season" and a "Trade to EARN" page on the verification date, which this site records as promotions rather than a points path.

Risks

  • Upgradeable contracts. L2BEAT records that edgeX's V1 central contracts can be upgraded by a single externally-owned account; the status notice above carries the detail and its source. The docs do not frame the V1 to V2 migration as a risk to funds.
  • Operator dependence. Matching is off-chain. The docs' answer is a withdrawal path that bypasses the operator; that path has not been exercised on this site, so it is reported as documented, not tested.
  • Unpublished pricing. You cannot compare edgeX on cost before signing in. This site does not estimate the missing rates.
  • Session-gated markets. Stock and forex perps carry explicit liquidation and price-deviation risk disclosures for periods when the underlying market is closed.
  • Withdrawal latency. Ethereum withdrawals "could take up to 14 hours"; email (MPC) accounts can withdraw only via Arbitrum.
  • Access. United States and Canada are barred by the terms; no KYC statement either way was found.

Who edgeX suits — and who it doesn't

It suits a trader who wants an order book with USDT collateral, multi-account margin separation, and stock or forex exposure as perps, and who is comfortable reading the fee tier from the app after depositing. It does not suit anyone who needs to price a venue from its documentation, or who trades from the United States or Canada.

How edgeX compares

FAQ

What are edgeX’s trading fees?
The docs describe a tiered maker/taker structure keyed to rolling 30-day volume, recalculated daily at 00:00 UTC, and refer readers to a VIP page inside the app for the rates. No rate table is published in the documentation, so this site quotes none — see the fees page for exactly what is and is not stated.
Is edgeX non-custodial?
Per its own docs, yes: funds sit in smart contracts, every transfer needs the user’s signature, and both V1 and V2 describe withdrawals that work even if the operator is down. Separately, L2BEAT records that the V1 contracts can be upgraded by a single externally-owned account — see the status notice at the top of this page and the safety tracker.
Does edgeX have a token or a points programme?
EDGE is live: its tokenomics page records an airdrop to eligible users and a buyback-burn funded by revenue, and the docs describe governance and validator-staking utility. No points programme is described in the docs; the app advertised a “TradFi Trading Season” fee-rebate promotion on the verification date. The tracker keeps that row dated.
Can I use edgeX from the United States?
No. The Terms of Use bar residents of the United States and Canada, citing the Commodity Exchange Act, and the app shows the same restriction. This site does not cover access workarounds.
